12KBW pays tribute to former Member, Lord Rawlinson

Peter Rawlinson, who was one of the great advocates of his generation (“the Lawrence Olivier of the Bar”), had a distinguished career at the intersection of politics and the Bar. As a junior he acted in high-profile murder cases (including Ruth Ellis) and as a Silk he had an important libel practice, acting most notably for The Daily Mail against the Moonies. He was Harold Macmillan’s Solicitor-General, Edward Heath’s Attorney-General, Chairman of the Bar, and was tipped as a possible Lord Chancellor. After his retirement he started yet another career as an autobiographer, broadcaster and novelist. Chambers offer our condolences to his family.

Paul Russell is noted for his 'tough approach' and is a 'good choice when some steel is needed' (Chambers UK 2006)
