12kbw mountaineers tackle Kilimanjaro

Following a vigorous training regime (of two fairly tame walks in the Peak District) James and Gemma embarked on a six-day climb along the Rongai route. James successfully reached Gillman’s point (5685m) whereupon he complained of a mild headache and blocked nose/ altitude sickness, depending on whose account you believe. Gemma, who has a natural height advantage (if you believe James' account), reached the summit (5895m). She did so despite earlier threats to give up because it was too cold. James is considering a further climb, this time tackling Everest (base camp). He is assured of success as (i) it is but 5,360m to base camp; and (ii) he intends to take some paracetamol to combat any mild headaches. Gemma feels that she has done enough climbing and camping to last a lifetime.
