Ed co-wrote this text with Maarten Merkelbach from Geneva-based Security Management Initiative (SMI). The research looked at the law of negligence for aid agencies across five different jurisdictions with input from leading international law firms.

Credit Hire & Fraud CPDcase
John-Paul Swoboda recorded a CPDcast on 6 August 2012, on the subject of Fraud in RTA and credit hire claims. The recording gives practical advice in cases where fraud is suspected, explains some of the tell-tale signs of fraud, and highlights methods for spotting and dealing with fraudulent or exaggerated credit hire claims. The recording will be available for download from the CPDcast website shortly.

Joanna Vincent
We are very pleased to announce that Joanna Vincent has today been sworn in as a District Judge by Mrs Justice Pauffley in the Royal Courts of Justice. Jo will be sitting in the Oxford and Milton Keynes county courts from next week, having spent the last 12 years in Chambers. We wish her every success in her new career.

Following the release of Chambers and Partners 2012, 12 King's Bench Walk once again has many of its members ranked as Leading Silks and Juniors with Frank Burton QC listed as a Star Individual.

Motor Insurers’ Bureau v. Shikell and others (Queen’s Bench Division, Leeds)
William Featherby QC has successfully completed the prosecution for contempt of court of two individuals who conspired to defraud the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of over £1.2m in a personal injury claim. Two men were sentenced to twelve months imprisonment each, and third man was fined £750 for signing a false witness statement without reading it.

Silk Appointment
Paul Russell has been successful in his application to become Queen’s Counsel. The ceremony took place on April 7 and he is now Chambers’ 9th silk.

Soldier Challenge
On Saturday, 26th March 2011 eight members of Chambers, accompanied by a couple of friends and family,  successfully completed  the Soldier's Challenge raising almost £6,000 for ABF the Soldier's Charity. They participated in a wide variety of events including abseilling from the top of the Oval Cricket ground !

These conjoined appeals are in effect a sequel to Horton v Sadler [2006] UKHL 27, [2007] 1 A.C. 307, wherein the House of Lords reversed its previous decision in Walkley v Precision Forgings Ltd [1979] 1 W.L.R. 606.

Webster & Ors v The Ridgeway School
Ronald Walker QC and Henry Charles, acting on behalf of the defendant, were successful in establishing that the school was not liable to the claimants in negligence or under the HRA for the injuries sustained by the first claimant when he was attacked with a hammer by a visitor to the school grounds.

CICA and future care claims
Frank Burton QC and Joel Kendall, acting on behalf of the applicant, recovered the sum of almost £4.75m in an application to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority for compensation arising out of an assault on the infant applicant in 1987.
