Corinne Novell

Corinne is an experienced clinical negligence junior. She is recognised in the Legal 500 as a Rising Star in this field. She is routinely instructed, led and unled, in fatal and living claims. She is comfortable dealing with multi-party claims and non-NHSR Defendants.

Recently, Corinne has been instructed to act or advise in claims relating to:

• Birth injuries.
• Sepsis.
• Delayed diagnoses, including claims arising from cancers and fistulae.
• Spinal cord injuries.
• Strokes.
• Surgical errors.
• Pressure sores.

Corinne is recognised in the Legal 500 as a Leading Junior in Group Litigation. She has acted in numerous group tortious claims and is familiar with the complexities of litigating on behalf of groups numbering in the 100s and 1000s. She is experienced with cases involving GLOs, common case management and those brought under common claim forms.

She has been instructed in group actions brought for product liability, toxic torts, nuisance, personal injury, sexual abuse and military injuries.

Corinne has extensive experience of cases with an international element. She routinely acts in claims brought under the Package Travel Regulations and both the Montreal and Athens Conventions. Her work in this area also involves questions of jurisdiction and claims where the applicable law under Rome II is not English law. She acts both for and against the major carriers and tour operators in claims relating to breach of contract for cancellation or postponement of holidays, tours and cruises.

She appeared for the successful respondents, led by Michael Rawlinson KC and Max Archer in the Supreme Court in Lipton v BA Cityflyer Ltd [2024] UKSC 24, an important case on the UK’s legal order post-Brexit and Regulation 261.

She has also been invited to speak on cross-border issues at international conferences, including those organised by the Pan-European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers.

Corinne represents individuals bringing civil claims for psychiatric injury arising from abuse, including sexual abuse, bullying and harassment.

Her recent instructions include those brought against the MoD, the police and various employers for abuse and harassment occurring in the workplace.

Corinne’s practice encompasses advisory work, drafting and advocacy in a broad range of personal injury cases, in both the High Court and the County Courts. She is well-versed in claims relating to employers’ liability, occupiers’ liability and highways claims.

She acts for Claimants and Defendants and is comfortable dealing with high value catastrophic or fatal claims, either as a junior or part of a wider team.

Corinne acts in claims arising out of asbestos exposure, noise-induced hearing loss and cold injuries caused during military service.

Corinne accepts instructions to represent parties at inquests. She has been involved in numerous inquests and pre-inquest review hearings, including those involving allegations of clinical negligence, industrial disease and personal injury; in particular within clinical and care home settings.
