Kate Boakes was part of the counsel team, with Richard Hermer QC and Ben Silverstone of Matrix Chambers and Amal Clooney of Doughty Street, in two group claims arising out of alleged human rights abuses in Kenya and Malawi. Both claims have settled on the basis of the payment of compensation to the claimants, in addition to a range of restorative justice measures.

Kate was instructed by Daniel Leader and David Roberts of Leigh Day in the Kenyan claims and by Sapna Malik and Sophie Turner of Leigh Day in the Malawian claims.

Leigh Day’s statements regarding the settlement of the claims can be read here and here. The Sunday Times’ report of the settlement can be read here.
